Magpale bats for more agri fund

ACTING Cebu Gov. Agnes Magpale vowed to increase the budget allocation on agriculture in the province if she gets elected as vice governor.
She said this during the launching of the Rice Year 2013 at the Capitol's Social Hall with the Department of Agriculture (DA).
Magpale said that based on last year’s budget, there was only P22 million allocated for the Capitol’s agriculture department. The province has about 36,000 farmers .
"Usa gyud na sa among mga plano nga ma-increase and put emphasis on organic products and post harvest facilities," she said in an interview.
(That is on top of our plans – to increase the budget.)
Magpale said that with the suggestions from DA Regional Director Angel Enriquez, she plans to study how much budget will be allocated for the agriculture program on organic farming and post harvest facilities.
The province of Cebu yesterday received a plaque from the DA after it bested other provinces in Central Visayas in terms of rice production per hectare.
The DA also turned over projects to Magpale. This included the Agri Pinoy Rice and post harvest services.
Magpale is running for vice governor under the Liberal Party. She became acting governor in December 2012 after Malacañang suspended Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia for six months. /Carmel Loise Matus, Correspondent
