Job fair attracts 2T jobseekers

CEBU, Philippines - Over 2,000 jobseekers trooped to SM City Cebu and SM City Consolacion for the Labor Day job fair conducted by the two malls together with the Department of Labor & Employment in Region 7 and PESO.
Cebu City Councilor Lea Japson and Nancy Abad of the Department of Labor and Employment graced the occasion in SM City Cebu, while Consolacion Mayor Teresa Alegado welcomed the participants in SM City Consolacion.
Over 5,000 vacancies were recorded in SM City Cebu and SM City Consolacion with 68 companies joining the job search. The Department of Labor recorded 140 individuals who were hired on the spot in SM City Cebu and five applicants in SM City Consolacion.
Positions filled up included customer service representatives, sales clerks, checkers, waiters, kitchen assistants, office staffs, nurses, among others.
Companies who participated in the job search include mall tenants together with the SM Group of Companies such as The SM Store, SM Supermarket, Toy Kingdom, Ace Hardware, SM Supermalls, and BPOs.
Consolacion Mayor Alegado and Cebu City councilor Lea Japson lauded SM Supermalls’ program in reaching out to those individuals looking for better jobs. Both officials congratulated fresh graduates and expressed hopes that they find jobs that will suit their skills.
The Nationwide SM Supermalls Job Fair is in line with the government’s thrust for the private sector to actively participate in nation-building by providing employment to the people and aims to salute the Pinoy Working Force.
SM Supermalls have been in partnership with labor agencies for six years now as part of their efforts to provide decent jobs for Filipinos. The supermalls, together with their affiliates and tenants, have been known to create thousands of jobs in provinces where the malls operate.
