RDC to host Visayas Power Summit

CEBU, Philippines - The Regional Development Council in Central Visayas will host tomorrow the Visayas Power Summit which will tackle power-related issues confronting the Visayan regions. RDC-7 chairperson and Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said the summit will discuss among others the issue on the high cost of electricity. It has a theme: “Collective Action Towards Competitive Power in the Visayas”. The event will be attended by Secretary Jericho Petilla of the Department of Energy. “Let us make good use of this opportunity to present and dialogue our concerns collectively with our energy officials to make the Visayas regions more competitive in terms of providing adequate, reliable and reasonably-priced power needed for higher growth and development,” Rama said. Earlier, RDC-CV conducted a series of consultation activities pertaining to power related concerns in the region. Various fora generated several issues and recommendations to address power-related concerns especially on the electricity cost. Among the topics to be discussed during the summit are the current energy situation, policy thrusts, energy supply and demand outlook, generation sector reforms, transmission sector reforms, and renewable energy
