Mandaue fiesta off limits to political activities
WITH two weeks to go before the midterm elections, Mandaue City officials called on candidates not to wear campaign T-shirts and refrain from campaigning during the city's on May 8.
“The fiesta is a city celebration and not a campaign or religious activity (for anyone),” Mandaue City Hall Executive Secretary James Calipayan Jamaal said.
About P10 million sourced from the cultural activities and events item of Mandaue City's budget will be allocated for the summer cultural activities being held at the Mandaue City Heritage Plaza since April 27.
Three major activities are the Queen, Prince and Princess Night on May 5, Miss Mandaue on May 7 and Maharani, a gay beauty pageant also on May 7.
“The summer cultural extravaganza is unrelated to the fiesta even if it falls within the fiesta period,” Jamaal told Cebu Daily News.
The May 8 fiesta will culminate with a presentation of bands and a musical fireworks display called Symphony of Fire.
