“Kadaugan sa Mactan”

CEBU, Philippines - The reenactment today of the “Kadaugan sa Mactan” at the Mactan Shrine in Lapu-Lapu City will involve young movie stars who will play the major roles. Lapu-Lapu City officials said Polo Ravales will play the role of “Datu Lapu-Lapu,” Yam Concepcion as “Reyna Bulakna” and Troy Montero as “Ferdinand Magellan.” Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza, Vice Mayor Marcial Ycong, and city councilors will lead the celebration this morning. The half-day affair will commence with a holy mass at the Liberty Shrine in barangay Mactan, followed by a flag raising and a 21-gun salute to the Filipino hero by the members of the Philippine Air Force. The yearly reenactment is a breakthrough event of the Lapu-Lapu City Tourism, Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission headed by Tourism chief Hembler V. Mendoza, Tourism chairman Damian T. Gomez, Jr. and co-chairman Hon. Harry A. Radaza. This event is co-presented by Pepsi, Aboitizland, San Miguel Beer, Megaworld – The Mactan Newtown, and Pagcor. Thousands of residents, balikbayans, and tourists are expected to join the celebration. The Lapu-Lapu police will be on alert. The following day, the “Kadaugan Street Party” will be held at the Manuel L. Quezon Avenue, passing in front of the city hall.
