PNG chess qualifying tilt set May 1

CEBU, Philippines - International arbiter Marvin Ruelan announced yesterday that they will be holding a qualifying tournament on May 1 at the Cebu City Sports Center to determine the City's representatives to the chess event of this year's POC-PSC National Games. The competition promptly starts at 9 am following the traditional 7-round Swiss system format. It is open to all enthusiasts of the famous European boardgame, men and women aged 16 years old and above. Registration is free. The top two finishers in each division will qualify to the 3rd POC-PSC National Games next month mainly at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila. Meanwhile, aside from chess, the PNG also features arnis, archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, billiards, canoe-kayak, cycling, dancesport, dragonboat, diving, fencing, football, gymnastics, judo, karatedo, lawn tennis, muay thai, pencak silat, shooting, swimming, soft tennis, sailing, sepak-takraw, table tennis, taekwondo, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, wushu and wall climbing. Among the newest events that will be contested in the week-long sports conclave are golf, ice skating, futsal, under water hockey, diving, windsurfing, motocross, bowling and indoor hockey.
