Pagara eager to fight Mexican

DESPITE his fight being still a month away, Jason Pagara is raring to go and punish his Mexican adversary for the Pinoy Pride 20– “Laban kung Laban” boxing event. Pagara will be defending his World Boxing Organization (WBO) International light welterweight crown against Aaron Herrera on May 25 at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino.
The loss of Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista at the hands of Mexican fighter Jose Ramirez last Saturday night in Davao City has fueled Pagara’s drive to avenge his fallen stable mate.
“I’m ready to fight. I’m angered seeing my friend fall. I’m ready to go, this will be more than revenge,” Pagara said yesterday in a press conference at the St. Marks Hotel, announcing the latest Pinoy Pride event of ALA Promotions.
After a loss to Rosbel Montoya in 2011, Pagara has been on a sudden surge, winning his last three fights, including an impressive sixth-round technical knockout revenge on Montoya.
Herrera has won his last fight but lost the fight before that. He, however, has faced and beaten quality opponents in the likes of Joksan Hernandez and one-time world title challenger Zaid Zavaleta.
Pagara is 30-2 with 19 kncokouts, while Herrera is 25-1 with 17 knockouts.
In the co-main event, undefeated Genesis Servania (19-0, 7 KOs) takes on a crucial 10-round non-title fight with Indonesian Isaac Junior (20-3-2, 8 KOs) in a fight that could dictate the direction of his career.
“I’m excited to fight abroad. I thank ALA Promotions for the huge opportunity. I’ll show them an impressive performance on May 25 because I know this is what they (Top Rank) will be studying,” he said.
One of the biggest promoters in the world, Top Rank, has been scouting Servania and is interested to include him in the undercard of an upcoming event in Macau on July 27.
Former world title contender Jimrex Jaca (37-6-3, 21 KOs) takes on Mexican former World Boxing Council Fecarbox lightweight and super featherweight titleholder Jose Emilio Perea (22-2, 14 KOs) for the vacant WBO Oriental light welterweight belt.
