Come to our City Zoo

CEBU, Philippines - Kids, come to our Cebu City Zoo this summer! It is located in Kalunasan or up Beverly Hills.
Come to the said facility so you will be aware of the developments and challenges our city zoo is facing. Actually, your Lola Elyang isn’t a fan of zoos anymore. But because we need to understand why a wildlife rescue facility and botanical garden is more appreciated, you have to be there to know better.
It would be nice if you also have something to say about the condition of caged animals in there. The only way to make a stand is to be aware about how the various animals are doing, most especially the Bengal tiger Bogart who is suffering from polio and skin infections brought about by so-called “genetic anomalies,” explains zoo worker Giovanni Stephen Romarate.
He mentioned that volunteer works are very much welcome inside the zoo.
Sir Giovanni mentioned that there is still more to develop on the 7.6-hectare area to entice more visitors, but the zoo receives P375,000 only for an annual budget. This amount already covers food upkeep for animals and compensation for regular and casual workers.
“We rely more on the private sector to help us improve the facility. I think it would be best if management would be focused more on wildlife rescue and plant-growing. However, this lot belongs to the Province. So, it’s really the lot ownership that is on top of the issues,” he shared.
As we were having a tour around the pocket forest, a dwarf-spotted pigeon had the freedom to cross our path. “Many thought this species of bird is already extinct in here, but now they are back. So if we plant more of their plant food, they would certainly grow back in population,” he added.
Entrance fees to the zoo: P25 for 13 years old and up; P10 for 12 years old and below
